Constitutional Right to NOT BE CONNECTED!

INTERNATIONAL MANIFESTO FOR A UNIVERSAL AND CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT NOT TO BE CONNECTED

By Bernard Neau from the Association Résistance 5G Nantes, the Nantes Citizen Watchdog Collective

If we look at the picture: physical and mental health for all generations, starting with the youngest—the very foundation of what freedom (and democracy) is all about—the devastation of our environment on earth, in the sky and in the oceans, we see no other solution against the electronic-digital technological diktats imposed on us than to demand a universal, constitutional right to non-connection/disconnection.

This implies that there must be another way of living socially, other than having a compulsory smartphone for everything we do, or even having a computer.

A Belgian jurist has written an opinion piece along these lines, as have the Spaniards for the protection of children and the English with a national petition, just recently. So we need to internationalize this demand very quickly.

This manifesto is the first step towards concerted international action.

We intend to publish it in a major daily newspaper or a widely watched media outlet, with signatures from a wide range of personalities.

And why not go all the way to the UN with a joint international text?

We’re waiting for the summer vacations to be over before taking action at national, European and international level. But it’s a good thing that the idea is already spreading.

This is a fledging initiative worth supporting.

Another manifesto with similar aims has also been be published in the UK. You can read and sign it at: https://www.offm.org/en/manifesto
